Kat and Morgan literally booked us around a month before their wedding day and we were so glad they did! We immediately scheduled their engagement shoot at Irving Nature Park close to sunset to catch that gorgeous light from the “golden hour” window. We had some really stellar locations in mind (the rocks at the end of Irving Nature Park) and we were excited! We packed our gear, ready to go, got to the Park and found out that the gate closed at 8pm! Eeep! We did not think to check when the Park closed. It was summer, the days were long and we assumed it closed when it got dark which was around 9pm. Y’know that saying about “assume”…we felt that. We knew we’d be able to get some shots in the Park…the real bummer was just not being able to get the locations we had in mind. Y’know, that feeling of really looking forward to something and then it gets snatched away.
But we couldn’t stay bummed, we had an engagement shoot and had to think on our feet and work with the time we had. Plus, we had these two lovely people who had not had professional photographs taken before and I am sure we can all agree that that it can feel terrifying/awkward/funny etc.! They were trusting us and the last thing we wanted to do was terrify them even more. We had beautiful light all around us and lots of other locations to choose from…we moved on.
Above and beyond our oversight shenanigans, Kat and Morgan were delightful to photograph. They went with the flow, they weren’t phased by our mistake, and they just eased into the joy of being with each other. They brought out that inner beauty in the other…quirk, bashfulness and confidence. We could not have asked for anything more!
